Legislative Elections in Colombia

Parliamentary elections will be held to elect members to both chambers of Congress in Colombia on 9 March 2014.The nationwide constituency for the 102-member Senate will be contested, as well as the 166 seats of the Chamber of Representatives, plus the delegates to the Andean Parliament.

There are currently 21 women out of 166 (13%) members of the House of Representatives and 17 women Senators out of 102 seats in the Colombian Senate.

For both houses, in the lists submitted for election of five or more seats, at least 30% of candidates of each gender must be included (Law 1475 of 2011, Article 28 (1)). Political parties decide themselves whether their lists shall be open or closed.
